The CPOS staff will assist most international academic visitors invited to the Institute in finding housing. Since we have a small staff, this assistance is limited to finding housing for a researcher & spouse, and perhaps one child. If you have special needs, or wish to bring your entire family, it would be best for you, the researcher, to come before your family and arrange your own housing. CPOS staff can help you in getting temporary housing for the duration of your search. With that caveat, on we go.... |

HOUSING HELP: |
|
|
|
The Santa Barbara/Goleta/Isla Vista areas are full of many interesting housing options, some desirable, some not so. This section is to give you a flavor of the areas, and hopefully avoid the undesirable.
is the closest community to UCSB.
A very densely populated area, it is full of students due to it's closeness to
campus. Many researchers (without cars) prefer to live here also for that
reason. Bicycles rule the road here, and IV is well known for it's parties on
certain streets and times of the year. This is where we tend to find housing,
since there are two apartment complexes that will rent to our researchers on
a short-term basis, and with a very low deposit. These two complexes are Studio
Plaza Apt.s, 785 Camino Del Sur, and Berkshire Terrace Apts., Berkshire
Terrace. Both are located on the map below.
is the city & unicorporated areas surrounding
UCSB and Isla Vista. Most housing is within a 1 to 5 mile bike ride from
UCSB, and there is a very good bus system as well. There is a wide mix of
neighborhoods, and a wide variety of housing options in Goleta. We don't have
any apartmentss that we use regularly, but there are a couple of complexes (all
unfurnished) that we could recommend. Call our office to discuss this if you
are interested.
is at least 5 miles to the east of campus. This is only an option if you have a car, or are willing to commute by bus. Again, a wide variety of neighborhoods, and housing options, from sharing a room to renting your own house. Our staff is too small to help find housing in Santa Barbara, but the links below should be helpful!

HOUSING FORM: |
|
|
|
The Center staff can best help you find housing only if we know your preferences. If you are an invited academic, international visitor to CPOS, you can complete the form available at IPOS Housing Form, print it and fax it to us at (805) 893-4755. We will then do our best to find you a rental for your stay. Please NOTE: we are a small staff and cannot arrange housing for anyone not associated with CPOS. Please don't fill out the form if you are not an invited, international CPOS visitor. Thank you.

HOUSEHOLD ITEMS FOR LOAN: |
|
|
|
The Center has a large supply of household items for lending to CPOS visitors. This is because about 90% of our researchers are from abroad, and cannot easily pack everything they will need. We have...
These are for loan, at no cost,
To arrange a loan, just ask the staff person helping you will your housing. We can have them left at your new apartment, ready for you to use when you arrive.
